What is a HIV self-screening test?

When you use the BioSURE test, you will be screening for HIV infection by yourself. You will choose when and where you will collect your own blood sample. You will perform the test and interpret the result by yourself.

Do I have to test alone?

No. You can test with a friend, relative or with us. You can schedule a support session with us here.

How accurate is this test?

If this test is performed correctly it can have up to have 99.7 percent accuracy. 

How does the BioSURE test find HIV in my body ?

The BioSURE self-screening test does not find the HIV virus. It will identify antibodies if your body has been exposed to HIV.

If your body was exposed to HIV it will produce antibodies specific to HIV so that your body can fight off the virus. These antibodies can be detected in one drop of blood.

Can I test for HIV if I take ARV’s?

No, this test is not suitable for those who are on ARVs. If you are HIV positive and on ARVs the test can show a false negative result.

How old can I be to use this test?

Children below 12 years of age need to go to a health care facility for an HIV test. It is recommended that children between 12 and 17 years are assisted with HIV self-screening. We offer this assistance for free.

What happens if my result is positive?

Don’t panic. Let us help you make a plan.

What happens if my result is negative?

If you have a negative test, you could have been exposed to HIV in the last 3 months prior to doing this HIV self-screening test i.e. you may be in the window period and will need to negotiate the negative.
